Nanga Parbat Base Camp, 4230mt above sea level, cloudy, -13°C
Today is the first day we can relax at Base Camp. I began the day by fixing the Thuraya satellite antenna that I bought from a company in Rome. They suggested this was the best way to have high speed communication.
Then I called home, because my little boy Jonas turns 2 today(Happy Birthday Jonas). We connected on Skype, and played and laughed for a while.
After this we pitched a second tent inside the perimetric rock walls so we can use it as a deposit and also as sleeping tent for the two cooks and the sirdar.
We were halfway through the job, when a huge avalanche came off the Mazeno ridge and we had the chance to see Nature’s power at work. Snow powder reached us almost 5 minutes after the avalanche and it felt like it was snowing.
Denis started dividing our gear while I was working on the generator and bringing power to the Pakistani’s tent.
The program for tomorrow is to go up for a reconnaissance. Denis and I are thinking about taking a closer look at the wall and climb the side of the Ganalo Peak. We’ll be back in the afternoon and make our considerations.
